Kazakhstan: Round Table on SEA Protocol to the Espoo Convention held in Astana

25 January 2017, Astana - Dr. Anatole Pichugin, WECOOP2 Team Leader, and Ms Lucia Hricova, Attache at EU Delegation to Kazakhstan, took part in the round table organised by the Green Academy under the joint project “Support to Kazakhstan transition to the Green Economy model” funded by EU, UNDP, and UNECE. The round table was attended by senior figures from the Parliament of Kazakhstan, Ministry of Energy, Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Ministry of Agriculture and representatives of UNECE, GIZ, UNDP, national environmental NGOs and international consultants. The purpose of the round table was to discuss needs and ways for the adoption and implementation by Kazakhstan of the Protocol on Strategic Environmental Assessment (SEA) to the Espoo Convention. Support to strengthening institutional commitments to Multilateral Environmental Agreements including SEA and EIA through adherence to international conventions with particular attention to implementation in one of the key priorities under the EU-Central Asia Strategy for New Partnership and the Platform for Environment and Water Cooperation.
