Enhanced regional cooperation on Environment, Climate Change and Water

UNECE/EUWI NPD meeting in Atyrau

More than 40 experts on water, fishery, forestry and environment, representatives of local administrations and NGOs gathered to discuss the challenging issues of the transboundary Zhaiyk River at Kazakhstan's National Policy Dialogue Working Group meeting in Atyrau.

The participants considered the issues of use and protection of the Zhaiyk River basin water resources, water quality, the condition of flood plain forests and biological resources. As a result of the meeting, the parties developed recommendations for further joint action, including on reducing the water resources pollution, protection of biodiversity, as well as conducting research and practical activities to improve the river basin ecosystem.

The meeting was organised by the Ministry of Agriculture of the Republic of Kazakhstan in cooperation with the Public Fund "Water Initiatives Centre" with the support of the EU-funded project WECOOP and OSCE.
